LIMBAH KORAN SEBAGAI BAHAN CAMPURAN PEMBUATAN PAPAN PLAFON

Abstract

ABSTRACT

The material of ceiling cover in a room could be plywood, asbestos, gypsum, glass reinforce cement, et cetera. This research was triggered by the large number of newspaper waste which was improperly dumped and caused contamination to the environment. Newspaper pulp is produced by finely grinding the newspaper or by crushing the newspaper in wet condition using blender. This pulp is then mixed with Portland cement and formed as wanted. In this research, the composition of Portland cement to newspaper pulp are 50:50; 55:45 and 60:40 and formed into board with the thickness of 10 mm. The objective of the research is to discover the proper proportion of newspaper pulp and Portland cement to obtain the consistent quality. It is intended that this research discover the substituting material for gypsum ceiling. This research was tested in the PNJ Civil Engineering Laboratory. There were some variants of test to obtain the proportion of Portland cement and newspaper pulp which conforms to standards. There were some stage of material test, which were absorption test, tension strenght test, and flexural strength test. The data processing was done by averaging the value of test result. The absorption and fracture strength showed that the greater the proportion of cement, the higher the fracture strength. In this research, it was obtained in the proportion of 60:40 with the value of 20,497 kg/cm2. While the absorption test showed that the increase in proportion of cement reduced the water absorption. In this research, it was obtained in the composition of 60:40 with the amount of 48.93%.

ABSTRAK

Bahan penutup plafon suatu ruangan dalam bangunan gedung dapat berupa kayu lapis/ tripleks, asbes, gypsum, glass reinforce cement (GRC) dan sebagainya. Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi karena banyaknya limbah koran yang dibuang sembarangan dan saat ini yang dapat menyebabkan pencemaran lingkungan. Bubur kertas koran dapat dibuat dengan cara menumbuk halus atau dihancurkan menggunakan mesin blender dalam keadaan basah yang kemudian dicampur menggunakan bahan semen portland dan dicetak dapat menjadi bentuk sesuai yang diinginkan. Dalam penelitian ini komposisi antara semen portland dengan bubur kertas koran 50:50; 55:45 dan 60:40 dicetak dan dibentuk menjadi papan dengan ketebalan 10 mm. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mencari perbandingan yang sesuai antara bubur kertas koran dengan semen portland, agar mendapatkan kualitas sesuai . Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memeproleh bahan pengganti penutup plafon dari bahan gypsum. Penelitian ini di uji di laboratorium teknik sipil PNJ dan pengujian ini dibuat beberapa varian seperti tersebut di atas untuk mendapatkan perbandingan antara semen potland dan bubur kertas koran yang sesuai dengan standar . Ada beberapa tahap pengujian bahan yaitu melalui pengujian daya serap air, pengujian kuat tarik ,pengujian kuat lentur. Teknik pengolahan data yang dilakukan dengan mencari rata-rata dari hasil pengujian yang telah dilakukan. Dari hasil pengujian daya serap air dan kuat patah menunjukkan bahwa semakin besar kadar semen kuat patah semakin meningkat, dalam hal ini dicapai pada komposisi 60:40 sebesar 20.497 kg/cm2 sedangkan untuk daya serap air menunjukkan bahwa semakin besar kadar semen daya serap air mengalami penurunan, dalam hal ini dicapai pada komposisi 60:40 sebesar 48.93%
