Abstract

Students are burdened with many demands which often made them in turn encounter several problems such as academic problems or personal problems. This makes students vulnerable to stress or other mental health disorders. Therefore, students require a way to solve these problem, one of them is by seeking help. The purpose of this study was to examine te relationship between mental health literacy and perceived public stigma on students’ help seeking behavior. This study was designed using a correlational quantitative method. The subject of this study were stated of 279 university students in Java, Indonesia. Data were collected by 3 different scale using google form such as mental health literacy scale, perceived public stigma scale, and help seeking behavior scale. The data was then analyzed with multiple linear regression using SPSS 21 for Windows. The result showed that mental health literacy and perceived public stigma mutually influencing the help seeking behavior on students (F=20,353, p=0,000), mental health literacy mutually influencing the help seeking behavior (t=2,920, p=0,004) and perceived public stigma mutually influencing the help seeking behavior (t=-5,869, p=0,000). The contribution between mental health literacy and perceived public stigma on the help seeking behavior was (R2 = 0,129) 12,9%. It concluded that the help seeking behavior was interconnected with mental health literacy and perceived public stigma.
